大村益次郎襲撃される。/1869（明治2）年9月4日
明治2年9月4日、兵部大輔・大村益次郎が京都木屋町で襲われ、重傷を負いました。
大村益次郎は周防の生まれで、大坂の適塾で医学・蘭学を学んだ後、長州藩に仕え、農民、町人の兵式訓練に携わっていました。明治新政府の元で近代兵制の整備に尽力しましたが、農民、町人の登用に不満を持つ武士達からは非難の声が上がっていました。
大村はその後、大坂で手術を受けましたが、敗血病で没します。
写真は大村益次郎が襲撃された木屋町御池上がるの石碑です。ほぼ同じ場所で元治元年、佐久間象山も暗殺されています.
