六波羅蜜寺・万灯会/8月8日～10日

　毎年8月8日～10日まで、京都・六波羅蜜寺では、盂蘭盆会の精霊迎えの行事である万灯会が行われます。
応和3（963）年、空也商人がこの地に堂宇を創建した際に、村上天皇の許しをえて、僧600人を集めて催したのが始めと言われています。
　8日の午後8時、本堂内陣の108個の灯明に火がともされます。
灯明は「大」の形をしており、地・水・火・風・空という密教の五大思想に基づくもの。
期間中、六波羅界隈では六道参りが行われ、不思議な雰囲気に包まれます。
