沖縄県、車両の左側通行実施。/昭和53（1978）年7月30日
5年前に日本に復帰した沖縄県は、昭和53年7月30日午前6時～車両の左側通行を実施しました。米国統治が２０年以上も続いた影響でそれまでは車両は右側通行。この日から一国一交通形態を規定した国際条約に基づき「車は左、人は右」に変更されました。
ドライバーはまだ左側通行に慣れず、交通事故が頻発したそうです。また、交通標識の架け替えなどにも莫大な費用がかかったとか。
