南蛮寺で献堂式行われる/天正4（1576）年7月21日
天正4（1576）年7月21日、京都におけるキリスト教布教の拠点となる南蛮寺で、献堂式が行われました。
京都の姥柳町に作られたこの教会はイタリア人司祭オルガンティーノがキリシタン大名高山右近ら信徒の協力のもとに建設を始めました。
この日が聖母マリアの被昇天の日に当たるため、完成を待たずに献堂式が行われました。
南蛮寺が信長の庇護のもとに完成したのはそれから2年後でした。
以後、京都でのキリスト教布教と南蛮文化の拠点として発展していきました。
